WoW Guide: How to activate Ulduar's hard modes

You may have heard that a number of guilds have cleared Ulduar to Yogg-Saron already, which to me is perfectly fine. I like to think that a lot of good, properly-coordinated guilds will kill Yoggy this week, and the Blues agree with me. Of course, this week's Yoggy kills were on the easiest possible difficulty, so world first or not, it doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of fame and fortune.

This is the beauty of Ulduar -- if you want prestige (and the best gear), you have to earn it by flexing your raiding muscle and beating encounters on their respective hard modes. If you don't have the chops or the time for the highest difficulty content, then you can still beat the instance and see every encounter.

But, of course, you want those 239-level items.

So you should probably read after the jump and find out how to activate each boss' hard mode, yeah?

• Flame Leviathan: Speak to the Lore Keeper of Norgannon first and select his gossip option, then speak to Brann. Leave one to four large colored towers up to have Flame Leviathan's HP, damage, and abilities scale. Four towers up is the hardest mode.

• Ignis the Furnace Master: Ignis has no hard mode.

• Razorscale: Razorscale has no hard mode.

• XT-002 Deconstructor: When his heart becomes exposed, destroy it. This is a DPS race. When the heart is destroyed, XT-002 gains 50% more HP and does 30% more damage. Destroying the heart also heals him to 100%.

• Iron Council: This encounter scales depending on what order you kill the NPCs. The NPCs will gain new abilities and do more damage depending on who's left up with them. Leaving the dwarf up last is considered the easiest, followed by the vrykul for medium mode, and the giant being the last add is considered the hardest.

• Kologarn: Kologarn has no hard mode, though it's significantly harder anyway if you kill both of his arms.

• Auriaya: Auriaya has no hard mode, so far as I'm aware.

• Hodir: Hodir's hard mode is simply a DPS race. Kill him before three minutes are up to get both Rare Caches of Hodir; kill him before six minutes are up to get just one. He enrages at nine minutes.

• Thorim: Battling through the Arena and engaging Thorim within 3 minutes causes Sif not to despawn and assist Thorim in the fight. Sif cannot be targeted and will nuke the raid.

• Freya: Just like Sartharion -- leave her Keepers (up to three) up during the fight. She gains new abilities for each Keeper -- just like Sartharion.

• Mimiron: Have someone sneak behind him and hit the Big Red Button. Pressing it activates an 8-minute enrage timer and increases the health and damage done by the vehicles in the encounter by 25%.

• General Vezax: Don't use the Saronite Vapors to regain mana. If no member of your raid makes use of the Saronite Vapors, then after 8 Saronite Shards are dropped, the Saronite Animus will spawn. It's got 8 million health on heroic and applies a debuff to the raid that increases shadow damage taken by 10% every 2 seconds. Kill it and kill General Vezax for your hard mode reward.

• Yogg-Saron: During the fight, if you've defeated any of the Watchers (Hodir, Thorim, Freya, Mimiron) before engaging Yogg-Saron, then they'll assist you in the fight, but only if you've talked to them outside their hall before you engage Yoggy. Don't activate one to four Watchers for scaling loot. The meta achievement requires you leave one or fewer Watchers up.

• Algalon: Algalon has no hard mode -- he IS hard mode.

The unwritten rules of raiding

I really like this post over at Mystic Chicanery. Every guild, when raiding, has its own unwritten rules of play. You just know that by the end of your raid, the MT will be drunk, the priest will have died about five times, and if you insult the healers, you might or might not get healed. It's these little quirks that make raiding so much fun-- sure, the game is a good time, and downing bosses is definitely an achievement. But it's having fun with the people you're raiding with that make the game worth playing.

So what are your guild's unwritten rules? I find that they usually revolve around people-- someone does something that gets them remembered, and then everyone knows the joke after that. Guildleaders tend to set a lot of the unwritten rules as well, since they're there at most of the raids anyway. And some of the rules just plain have to do with etiquette-- who belongs in group 1, who explains which fights, who runs the tasks of main looter and calls boss phases.

None of this stuff is programmed into the game, obviously, but of all the hundreds (and thousands) of guilds out there, each one, I'd bet, does things their own way.

WoW Guide: Easy gold for high lvl skinners

WoW Guide: Easy gold for high lvl skinners

IF you have the time required to make this profitable. Yes, it can yield you 500
gold in 2 days but you will have to play 8 hours a day in order to do it! For
some people this just isn't realistic.

Angerclaw Maulers
Felwood, X37, Y44.

I'm taking it upon myself to let everyone know about this because I have made a
sickly amount of gold here latley, and a very disturbing amount in the past 2 weeks.

The respawn rate is insanely fast, When you kill the whole spawn camp of them which
is about 11-12 and take a 1 minute break you'll start having respawns to kill.

Where does the money come from you ask?

First you have some stackable gray items that are very commonly dropped:

Large Bear Bone(Non-Stackable) - 14s 84c each
Bear Jaw(Stackable) - 8s 98c -- 89s 80c per Stack of 10.
Savage Bear Claw(Stackable) - 5s 78c -- 57s 80c per Stack of 10.
Bear Flank(Stackable) - 5s 78c -- 57s 80c per Stack of 10.
Wicked Claw(Stackable) - 5s -- 25s per Stack of 5.

I make anywhere from 9 to 13 gold in gray items per hour here.

Even without the skinning compared to most places this is a great camp for gold/hr.
But skinning is where a lot of the money to come from if you want the results like I
get.

You can skin Rugged and Thick leather off of these. My server prices are 2.50g per
stack of Rugged and 1.50g per stack of Thick. Server prices are going to range, The
intake of gold on this obviously is based only on my servers prices, But you will
still make amazing gold here if you put the time in.

So where does all the money come from?

I take 8 hours a day and I run it here, Straight. Not every day, Usually in the
evenings and into the late hours on the nights I'm not raiding and ocasionally if
there is a third day I'll get up around 7am to start and I can be done around mid
afternoon so I can enjoy the day or do something else in game.

A single hour run brings on brings me in 6 Stacks of Rugged Leather and 5 stacks of
Thick Leather. I don't know if it's because my kill rate is fast or just pure luck,
But I can't remember when I have come away from this with less leather then that in
an hours run.

6x 2.50g = 15g per hour
5x 1.50g = 7.5g per hour

If I average out my usual grey items income per hour then I come away with 10.5g per
hour. I'm going to edit this tomorrow and record all of my drops and leather intake
from my 8 hours, But this is accurate. I've been making money like this for months
now.

Now, On to the juicy part...

Intake per hour based on Leather sales on the AH is 22.50g Per HOUR.

Intake per hour based on sellable greys averages out at about 10.50g

33 Gold per hour.
Wipe the drool off keyboard and keep reading

I run this 8 hours per day, Two days a week. Sometimes 3 but rarely. Skinning is
obviously required to get the bigger chuck of change for your time. Some of you all
day BG'ers could make literally thousands of gold here in a week if you took a week
off from all day long BG and went here, Just a thought. And I'm not exaggerating.
Thousands.

I try to run these 2 days back to back and I generally refuse to put up my auctions
and vendor until I have my 16 hours worth of loot. I just throw it all in the bank.

At the end of my 2 days I usually end up taking 510g - 545g out of my mailbox. +\- a
few gold for randomness of drops.

I have over 5000g in my bag right now. If you want an exact number then it's 5649g.
All of that gold was made in this spot except about 600g.

Maybe some of you should thinking of switching professions

Anyway, This made me rich. Simple as that, Hopfully it will do the same for you.

WoW Hunter Guide: Grizhak's Guide to "Gray" Pet Levelling at 70

By Grizhak

After reaching Outland and level 70, people complain about the types of pets available to them on that level. This guide will hopefully give you a look on how to level a pet from a level from totally useless to above 60 - where raw grinding and instance runs take over.

Of course, you *can* do instance runs with your level all-too-low pet, but as most people tend to hate and blame a low level pet for everything, far less permit the hunter to bring it, I will focus on getting the little bastard to 60 for now. The hard way, all solo of course. Be warned, once the pet reaches 60, the process of levelling will go much slower as he will require almost four times the amount of xp needed to gain a level. If someone could provide me with the exact numbers I will include them here (with credits, of course).

This is my first guide, and lacking other guides on the subject, why not write one? So here you are... comments and suggestions are welcome, as long as you keep it civil and constructive ;)

Part 1 - Getting started

Part 1a - Skills and talents

Skills

- Aimed Shot
- Concussion Shot
- Scatter Shot
- Steady Shot
- Aspect of the Viper
- Hunter's Mark

Talents

A good marksman build with a few points in survival and beastmastery works well here. The trick to this way of doing it is to down the enemy before it gets too close without burning too much mana and without using your pet at all. I will give you a sample build and explain some of it now.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=mVbhZEE0RVzMxotcG - 10/43/8

This build has a few survival talents that helps against the enemies featured in this guide as your prime target - humanoids. It also features Hawk Eye, which is almost mandatory for a hunter these days, even so for us in this situation. Efficiency points may be sacrificed for Careful Aim, depending on your preference. Remember, this is an optimized variant of my character's levelling build, and a more general approach would be preferred if you plan to do other things than just levelling a grey pet. The other Beast Mastery talents helps your overall damage and survivability in melee. As long as your build contains the above mentioned skills and preferrably Savage Strikes and Hawk Eye.

Part 1b - Equipment

Nothing really fancy. A good dps gun with a steady shot rotation you're familiar with and an OK melee weapon. I prefer slow two-handers for Mongoose Bite and Raptor Strike, but do what you feel is best.

My weapon of choice: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23748 - Ornate Khorium Rifle. Good, slow and with a nice DPS to boot. A bit more expensive than http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31303 - Valanos' Longbow, but I recommend either of these for the task ahead.

Oh, and a decent crit rate (15% and more) is a plus, but you can manage without. It'll just be a bit slower.

Part 1c - Pet skills

Before you tame your pet of choice, be sure to have learned all the skills you plan to teach him. For example, before getting my Ashmane Boar I had to tame a Rip-Blade Ravager to learn it's Gore rank 9, a Plagued Swine for Charge rank 6 and I already had Dash rank 3.

See http://www.goodintentionsguild.info/hunters.html for a list of pet skills and where to get them.

Part 2 - The technique

So, how to do it? I'll give you a short walk trough an average battle:

Hunter's Mark when running to range, Aimed Shot, Concussive Shot (if melee mob), Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot (Concussive Shot will have worn off by now). Depending on your number of crits and the mob's health you can now either finish him off in melee, try to finish him off while still at range, or Scatter Shot him and do a Steady Shot + Auto Shot. He should be dead by now.

If you fight casters, you might want to use Silencing Shot. If you get the distance right, he will stop running towards you and start casting again before getting too close for you to shoot him.

In any case, remember to use Aspect of the Viper. Don't be ashamed if you get some downtime, personally I solved that by not using Arcane Shot unless the mob was closing in on me with 2000+ health. With decent gear that won't happen often anyway.

Rinse and repeat in your area of choice or until the pet gets level enough to hold aggro. That's when you can begin the "ordinary" grind.

Side note: Traps
I tried using traps for this kind of grind, but it's not worth the time or mana. Use some extra mana on your shots instead.

Side note 2: Stings
Not worth the mana either. The mob will die before too long has passed, and the dot effect of Serpent Sting breaks Scatter Shot. Mana better used on something else.

Part 3 - Places to grind

Grind. A terrible word. But that's what it is - experience grinding. I have chosen these areas out of efficiency, not out of drops. These are the areas I have tried and have experience with, you might have other favourites. The level range is from 62 and above because at level 70, neither you or the pet (at ANY level) will get experience from mobs at 61 and below.

Preferred place, second if not alone: Firewing Point (Terokkar Forest) - around 70,35
Mob level range: 63-64
Mobs: Around theglowing centre with the manabomb - Mainly warlocks, which stays at range most of the time. Casts shadowbolt and immolate, often resisted. Some melee mobs. All the mobs have a small chance to drain about 1200+ mana if you're closer than approx. 20 yards.
Common drops: Silver, Netherweave and Runecloth, water and bread, Firewing Signets (low-level scryer rep) and very rarely Arcane Tomes.
Great if you are alone, because you can mainly grind off warlocks. Only technique to worry about is to keep distance. Once they start casting they'll stay at range. Downside is that the place is a quest place, making it quite possible someone else is there too, "stealing" your mobs. Also the warlocks do some damage, making it likely you will get some downtime. Otherwise a brilliant spot :) Can also be used at levels above 60.

A close second: The Den of Haal'esh (Hellfire Peninsula) - around 26,75
Mob level range: 62-63
Mobs: Melee and ranged casters. Some grey level birds, easily avoided. Melee mobs might get a running speed buff, which makes raptor strike useless. Use Scatter Shot instead to gain range if needed.
Common drops: Silver, Netherweave and Runecloth, a few pieces of meat and some water. Also tons of light feathers.
This is the place I found the most effective in pure xp value. The mobs respawn quickly, the ones questing in the area leave as soon as they are done and there are no high level gankers around. Also, if you are horde like me, the vendor at Falcon Watch is only a minute away.

A close third: Veil Shienor (Terokkar Forest) - around 58,23
Mob level range: 62-63(?)
Mobs: Melee and a few stationary ranged casters. A named quest mob.
Common drops: Silver, Arakkoa Feathers (used for Lower City rep), Netherweave and Runecloth, Light Feathers, meat and water.
The skettis camps in Terokkar is often crawling with both alliance and horde, and mobs can be scarce at times. The Arakkoa Feathers make these camps popular for level 70 rep grinders. Still, I find Veil Shienor, just northeast of Tuurem, to be the better choice over the others. If you are alone, you will soon find your own "rounds" in the camp without waiting for respawns.

Fourth: The Hewn Bog (Zangarmarsh) - around 33,33 and as far as the ogres go
Mob level range: 62-64(?)
Mobs: Melee and semi-ranged casters with fire nova totems. A named quest mob. The melee ones enrages on low health. The casters are slow patrollers, but not enough to be a problem.
Common drops: Silver, Netherweave and Runecloth.
Between both alliance and horde towns, these ogres are close to both and a good grind. The distance between them tends to be big if you cleared out an area, and they don't respawn as fast as the arakkoa in Hellfire and Terokkar. Low health and easily downed if you got a good gun. Still, you hardly get your rythm going because of gankers and other questers killing the mobs.

Part 4 - Conclusion

So there you have it. That's how you can level any pet of any level to level 60 and above with (hopefully) minimum amounts of pain as far as soloing goes. Great thanks to... umm... Blizzard for making this game and my Ashmane Boar Borka for staying with me. He's been level 70 for some weeks now, and now it's the Noxious Plaguebat Greywing's turn!

Other stuff

Some nice to know facts:

- You and your pet shares the aggro range, regardless of level. That means the pet won't aggro pull because of its low level.
- All pets will are able to learn Cobra Reflexes. No need to level King Bangalash just for that skill.
- There are no beast-class (tameable) boars above level 60.
- For most pet-related questions, see http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/
- Cower sucks.

Update: Added an "Other stuff" section and a link to pet skills.
Update 2: Added Firewing Point to "Places to grind".
Update 2: Edited some "nice to know facts".
Update 3: Minor reprasing some places, moved Firewing Point to "Preferred place" position.

WoW Warlock Macros

By Ahriman

Hi ive been searching around and I realized that we do not have a macro specific thread, so I thought i might make one, because I use macroes alot to uptimize my gameplay :)

I think that good preparation is what makes an outcome of a battle, so first the "passive" macroes :)

Buffing:
This is quite good to have in the preparation time before the Arena starts, it's very fast to buff and quite easy. For selfbuffing just spam the button, for buffing other, select a friendly target and hold Ctrl while spam the button

/castsequence reset=N [nomodifier, target=player] Soul Link, Fel Armor, Detect Invisibility, Unending Breath /castsequence reset=N [modifier:ctrl] Detect Invisibility, Unending Breath

Healthstone:
This is good for raiding and Arena, hold Alt to create single Healthstone, hold Ctrl to create a Soul well.

#showtooltip Master Healthstone /Use [nomodifier] Master Healthstone /cast [modifier:alt] Create Healthstone /cast [modifier:ctrl] Ritual of Souls

Spellstone:
This is a macro to create, equip and use a Spellstone in one macro.

#showtooltip Master Spellstone /use [nomodifier] Master Spellstone /equip [modifier:ctrl] Master Spellstone /cast [modifier:alt] Create Spellstone

Soulstone:
This creates and use the Soulstone on your current selected target.

#showtooltip Master Soulstone /use [nomodifier ] Master Soulstone /cast [modifier:alt] Create Soulstone

Now we head on to the aggressive spells.

Curse of Exhaustion:
This will use the Amplify Curse and Curse of Exhaustion, which will reduce your targets movementspeed by 50%

#showtooltip Curse of Exhaustion /cast Amplify Curse /stopcasting /cast Curse of Exhaustion

You can use Trinkets in the macros by apply /use 13 and /use 14 - this is trinketslot 1 and 2.

Shadowbolt:
Use this macro when you are spamming shadowbolts.

#showtooltip Shadow Bolt /use 13 /use 14 /cast Shadow Bolt

Damage over Time:
Using this macro will apply all DoTs which have no cast time.

/use 13 /stopcasting /use 14 /stopcasting /castsequence reset=combat/target Corruption, Siphon Life, Curse of Agony

Fear mouseover:
This macro fear the target which your mouse is over, If you do not have a mouseover target it will fear your current target.

#Showtooltip Fear /cast [target=mouseover] Fear; Fear

Drain Life:
This macro will help you safe mana, It will only cast Drain Life if it is not channeled.

#showtooltip Drain Life /cast [nochanneling:Drain Life] Drain Life

Drain Mana:
This macro will help you safe mana, It will only cast Drain Mana if it is not channeled.

#showtooltip Drain Mana /cast [nochanneling:Drain Mana] Drain Mana

Now we head on to pet macros.

Fast Summoning macros, these macros will only use Fel Domination if you are in combat, but will summon normal if you are not.

Summon Imp:

#showtooltip Summon Imp /cast [combat] Fel domination /stopcasting /cast Summon Imp

Summon Voidwalker:

#showtooltip Summon Voidwalker /cast [combat] Fel domination /stopcasting /cast Summon Voidwalker

Petattack/Totem kill:
This macro will order your pet to attack totems, the script runs from the bottom and up.

/petattack /petattack [target=Searing Totem] /petattack [target=Wrath of Air Totem] /petattack [target=Grounding Totem] /petattack [target=Windfury Totem] /petattack [target=Mana Spring Totem]

Seduce/Spellock/Sacrifice:
This macro is the best pet macro of them all, it will uptimize your gameplay by 10!, Spell lock your focus target, Seduce your mouseover target, and use Sacrifice. Ofcourse in order of which pet you use.

/focus [modifier:alt] /cast [pet:Succubus, target=mouseover] Seduction /cast [pet:Felhunter, target=focus] Spell Lock; Spell Lock /cast [pet:Voidwalker] Sacrifice; Sacrifice

Smart Devour:
Devour the members debuffs, runs from top to bottom.

Some additional macros:

Bandage:
Will bandage youself

/use [target=player] Heavy Netherweave Bandage

Swap Bars:
This macro will swap between action bar 1 and 2 when pressed, very nice because warlocks use so many different spells all the time.
